Mums with cancer needing help…

mw_header_logo

Mummy’s Wish is a not-for-profit charity that focuses on supporting mothers diagnosed with cancer while either pregnant or with young children in South East Queensland.

Their mission is to support mums with young families to help them and their family cope with many of the challenges they face while undergoing treatment.

Mummy’s Wish is growing and unfortunately the demands of running the charity and being a single mum are affecting the founder Bernadette, who is in remission currently.

"My own health issues has become too much for me. I have the wonderful help of another mum also recovering from cancer however running the charity is too much for just the two of us. I am needing to pull back on the charity work and look after my own health a little more and to do that I need to recruit volunteers to help us achieve the wonderful things we do for women with cancer. I am writing to you to see if you or anyone you know, may be able to assist us with some volunteer work. We are looking to fill a variety of roles spanning a broad spectrum of skills.

We are looking at filling several volunteer roles which require an ongoing commitment to our charity. These roles could be completed from home and include

  • Treasurer – accounts are very kindly done by the wonderful team at Miss Efficiency (WNA members) however we need someone with a finance background to be on the management committee in the role of treasurer
  • Ambassadors – prominent business, politics, sports or medical professionals able to promote and support Mummy’s Wish
  • Charity Advisor – someone with experience of running a charity preferred
  • Admin Manager – looking after the administration side of the charity
  • PR Manager – looking after public relations
  • Fundraising Manager – managing fund raising team
  • Support Manager – managing the support team
  • HR Manager – managing all HR aspects including volunteer recruitment
  • Mums supports – counsellor, social work or medical background or close experience of cancer – performs initial and ongoing visits to the mums "

We are also in need of volunteers to fill other roles (such as support assistant, HR assistant, accounts assistant, policies co-ordinator, fundraiser) that can be done as an ongoing commitment of only a few hours a month or a one off commitment – all of these roles can be done from home.

We are also in need of an Auditor – for our annual return – if you are able to forward this email on to any auditors you think may be interested we would appreciate it."

Please visit Mummy’s Wish for more information or contact Bernadette on bernadette@mummyswish.org.au and Gayle on gayle@mummyswish.org.au.

  • I have experience in not for profit and on their boards. I would be happy to meet with you and learn more about your organisation and your needs. If I can then be of help or introduce some people in my network who might assist you we can look at the possibilities if you wish.

I was a board member of Karuna paliative care for some years and a Board Director for Gove Peninsula Hospital.

    kind regards…..Catherine
